Of all the inventions ever created by human beings, few have had the impact of the automobile. Through it there has been a real revolution that has forever changed the way people move and interact socially. The point is, after a century of evolution and change, the automotive industry needs to step forward and continue to innovate, which sets EVs apart in automakers’ strategy and driver preference.
A survey by consulting firm McKinsey indicates that practically two in three Brazilians (64%) appreciate having a car with clean energy. As if that weren’t enough, an analysis by the Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles (ABVE) shows that there were nearly 3,400 registrations of fully electric cars in the first half of 2022, 19% more than the 2021 total. reasons explain it prominently throughout the industry? Discover the main ones:
1 – Compliance with ESG principles
When it comes to electric cars, it is clear that the environmental issue appears as the main factor of disclosure and acceptance. After all, they are vehicles that swap the consumption of fossil fuels, which releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, for electricity. However, it is about sustainability as a whole in line with the ESG principles of social development, compliance with standards and environmental protection. Today it is a hot topic for companies and investors.
2 – Technological and digital evolution
The automotive industry is one of those that most require technological innovation in its processes. Whether it’s to streamline vehicle production, make them safer or even with new aerodynamic designs, automakers are aligned with digital trends and solutions. An electric car, therefore, is the face of the digitization of this sector and, above all, a vehicle that facilitates the integration of novelties, such as computers and the use of artificial intelligence to save energy and facilitate driving for the driver. .
3 – Alternative to fossil fuels
From the beginning of automobiles, with the creation of the Fordist assembly line, up to now there have been several transformations in this sector, but one situation has remained: the use of fossil fuels as the main source of combustion to operate vehicles. The problem is that, in addition to being highly polluting, it is a depleted resource. The use of electricity is consolidated as the main alternative to maintain the productivity of the sector without entailing performance losses.
4 – Best cost / benefit ratio
The third argument leads to another problem: electric cars are cheaper for both manufacturers and drivers. There is no loss of power in relation to combustion, the battery life is good or even better than that of a petrol or alcohol vehicle engine, and the manufacturing cost is similar. In short: the use of an electric car does not harm the car manufacturer, much less the person who will use it.
5 – Legislation and company application
An important point that places the electric vehicle at the center of the strategy of the main manufacturers is the change in the legislation that regulates the sector in all countries. These are laws that facilitate the manufacture of cars that are considered clean through tax incentives. The European Union, for example, has decided to end the production of combustion cars by 2035 in all countries of the bloc. In Brazil, on the other hand, there is an intense debate between companies, professionals and academics to build a new regulatory framework that stimulates the entire sector.
6 – Efficient mobility
Finally, it is important to underline the importance of electric vehicles for more efficient mobility. Here, of course, we are not just talking about cars, but about other modes, such as motorcycles and scooters. The use of electricity broadens the mobility options for people and, as a result, makes transit in small and large cities much more efficient, as well as, of course, much more sustainable and cleaner than we currently see.
