“The Sandman” renewed for a second season by Netflix

“The Sandman,” the hit series on Netflix, has been renewed for a second season, according to Deadline.

The series launched in early August and ran for 69.5 million hours in the first week on the platform, reaching 127.5 million in the second, 77.2 million in the third and 53.8 million in the fourth.

The renewal of the title comes after an accidental leak on DC Comics’ Twitter. Before it was canceled, countless people read “the dream continues. [“The Sandman”] will return with new episodes based on the multiple volumes of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel to explore many more Endless stories. “

There were also false rumors of a possible cancellation of the series propagated by a fake Twitter account.

The 10-episode series, based on Gaiman’s DC Comics series of the same name, follows Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), the embodiment of dreams and one of the seven Endless, who is captured in an occult ritual in 1916. After being imprisoned for 106 years , Dream (also Sturridge) escapes and sets out to restore order to his realm, the Dreaming.

Other stars of the series include Boyd Holbrook as Corinthian, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Patton Oswalt as the voice of Matthew the Raven, David Thewlis as John Dee, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, among others.

In August, a surprise bonus episode was released featuring Neil Gaiman’s favorite comic book stories, “A Dream of A Thousand Cats” and “Calliope”, with appearances by Sandra Oh, James McAvoy, David Tennant and Michael Sheen.

Executive Allan Heinberg produces alongside Neil Gaiman and David S. Goyer. Gaiman, Goyer and Heinberg are also co-writers on the project. On the renewal of the series, Netflix declined to comment.
