Rent to Hell on Netflix: Where are the killers today?

Available on Netflix, the documentary series “Un bail en enfer” features four horror stories with the same theme of cohabitation that is wrong. What happened to the criminals after their cases?

What if your roommate was a killer? This is the theme of the documentary series Un bail en enfer. In five episodes the real crime recalls four cohabitation cases with dire consequences. With testimonies from investigators, relatives of the victims, and animated sections, the show follows in detail these sometimes unfamiliar but always terrifying stories. The question arises: what happened to the perpetrators?

Dorothea Puente, criminal grandmother

This 60-year-old resident of Sacramento (USA) checks every box for a trusted person. This is not the case. Dorothea Pointe opens the doors of her house to greet the guards – often the disabled, the elderly or the unstable. This beautiful gesture is actually a trap to steal money from its victims who are eventually killed.

Dorothea Pointe buries corpses in her garden. A total of nine people were killed when an old woman was hit. In 1988, after years of horrific behavior, he was charged with nine counts of murder but convicted of only three. He spends the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of remission. He died on March 27, 2011, at the age of 82, in Chochila Prison with a natural death.

KC Joy, an obsessive roommate

U.S. Army veteran Maribel Ramos, 36, is posting an ad online to find a roommate. He meets 55-year-old KC Joy, who moves in with him. They become friends, but a man falls madly in love with a young woman. Months pass and KC Joy collects unpaid rent. Maribel Ramos then asks him to leave the residence.

It was then, in May 2013, that those around him declared him missing. Her ex-boyfriends are being questioned, but her compatriot is in doubt. Betrayed by his internet investigation, KC Joy was eventually arrested by the authorities. He pleaded guilty to murder and faces up to 15 years in prison. In February 2023, the offender will be eligible for parole.

Yousef Khater, fraudulent athlete

This is one of the strangest stories in this documentary series. Yousef Khater claims to be a young football coach and war veteran. He also runs various marathons and asks for donations from those around him to fund his sporting experience. However, the athlete saves money so as not to spend it on his race.

He especially steals a few thousand dollars from British athlete Dominic Rainer and tries to kill one of his roommates, Kali Quinn, whom he will bury alive. The man was arrested in Chile before being extradited to Denmark. He spent only three months in prison and found freedom to fly to South America. Since then, Yusuf Khater has changed his identity several times. He was last seen in 2018, in Denmark.

Jamison Bachmann, Serial Scooter

The story of Jamison Bachman is adapted from an article published in New York Magazine in February 2018. He tells the story of this man Modus who puts his countrymen in hell to force them to leave the building and take their playground. He presents himself as a lawyer and invents tragic family stories to appease his victim.

Jamison Bachmann is also accused of killing his brother, Harry Bachmann. He was tried in December 2017 but was found in a cell before the trial. His victims never received real reparations from the justice system.
