“This is the first time Disney has winked at itself.”
The long-awaited sequel to ‘Enchanted’ is just a few days away from its premiere and is expected to be a delight for Disney fans, according to its director Adam Shankman.
Premiering on Disney+, ‘Disenchanted’ sees Amy Adams reviving Giselle, who is now struggling to adjust to her new life in the suburbs with her husband Robert (‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor Patrick Dempsey) and their sons.
As Shankman states, the sequel will have numerous winks for viewers from a spell that Giselle performs, to transform reality into a fairy tale.
“The fundamental basis, theoretically, of ‘Enchanted’ is that it uses all the elements of fairy tales. That’s one of my favorite things about the movie and being in it, because (as I believe) is the first time that Disney has winked at himself. I don’t think Disney ever let them before,” Shankman commented to Digital Spy.
“When the city becomes a fairy tale, each sign in each store has something that connects it with Disney. In a very subtle way. hThere’s a ‘not-so-subtle’ reference in Gabby’s solo song. Well, actually, there are a lot. Every shot in that song has a reference to another song that has to do with ‘wanting something’ as well…”
The director promises references “from top to bottomtowards classic movies and other symbols.
“I think that with the actors we have talked about some of them. But many others I have put there,” Shankman commented.
“What about Jayme and Yvette’s dresses? [Mays y Nicole Brown] Are they literally those of Cinderella’s stepsisters?Or that we make everyone sing songs that Alan [Menken] and stephen [Schwartz] wrote specifically making references to Disney?” concluded the director.
‘Disenchanted’ opens on November 18 and you will finally be able to find all those hidden winks. Until then you can enjoy ‘Enchanted’ also on Disney +.
