Is it even more “lovely”?
‘Disenchanted’ has been keeping ‘Enchanted’ fans waiting, but it’s here and we finally have the first reactions to the long-awaited Disney+ sequel.
The film brings back Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey, in the shoes of Giselle and Robert, 15 years after the “happy ending” of one of the best fantasy movies ever. Although it turns out that life is not so easy, after all.
Disillusioned with their life in the city, they decide to move to a community in the suburbs, Monroeville., hoping for a life more like fairy tales. Unfortunately, Giselle achieves this “over the top” when she accidentally transforms the small town into a real-world Andalasia.
Now what really What you need to know is whether or not it was worth the wait for ‘Disenchanted’ – and it seems that there are different opinions on this among the criticisms received.
Although Adams’ performance has been generally praised, as have the new songs in the film, many have noted that it fails to capture the magic of the original film.
One user said: “‘Disenchanted’? Well, the name fits. Despite a wonderful return from Amy Adams, #Disenchanted falls flat for me. The music pieces aren’t that flashy and the songs are the definition of “quantity over quality.” It lacks the magical Disney touch of the first.”
However, another opinion defended the film, tweeting: “If you like musicals, then you’ll love #Disenchanted. Amy Adams is fantastic shines through in the song, especially when she sings alongside Maya Rudolph! Idina Menzel is pure magic.”
“Nothing beats a Patrick Dempsey musical number. There is SO much to love about this movie!”
Disenchanted? Well, they got the name right. Despite a wonderfully animated (re)turn from Amy Adams, #disenchanted sadly fell flat for me. The musical set pieces aren’t as dazzling & it’s quantity over quality with the songs. It really lacks that Disney wink-wink magic of the 1st pic.twitter.com/Zx3IHDrptO

If you like musicals, then you’ll love #disenchanted. Amy Adams whimsy shines brightest through song, especially when singing alongside Maya Rudolph! Idina Menzel is pure magic✨ But nothing tops Patrick Dempsey’s musical number. There’s SO MUCH to love about this movie!

#disenchantedwas alright. I enjoyed how the story felt different and implemented classic fairytale tropes into it, but it doesn’t have that same charm. The story drags and its too long, and the music isn’t catchy. Amy Adams manages two different performances with ease. pic.twitter.com/72x2pe3zqu

Enchanted will forever be one of my favorite Disney movies, which is why I was so excited for #disenchanted, Unfortunately this sequel ignores what made the first one so special and fun, the fairy tale interaction with the modern world. Very disappointing. pic.twitter.com/qxpow2YMoj

It’s not Enchanted, but I’m filled with joy after watching #disenchanted. Pure magic! Not only did it right the first film’s only wrong by letting Idina Menzel sing, but Amy Adams and Maya Rudolph have a duet that’s an instant Disney classic. Not enough James Marsden!

Like Adams and Dempsey, ‘Disenchanted’ brings back James Marsden and Idina Menzel, playing Edward and Nancyrespectively. Gabriella Baldacchino gives life to Robert’s daughter, Morgan.
Among the new faces we have Maya Rudolph like the queen bee of Monroeville, Malvina Monroe; a Yvette Nicole Brown and Jayma Mayslike Malvina’s henchmen, Rosaleen and Ruby; oscar nunezwho plays the local barista, Edgar; Already Kolton Stewartas the son of Malvina, Tyson.
Before its release, director Adam Shankman warned that there would be nods to Disney “from top to bottom” in the sequel, for fans to look for.
“The fundamental basis, theoretically, of ‘Enchanted’ is that it uses all the elements of fairy tales. That’s one of my favorite things about the movie and being in it, because (as I believe) is the first time that Disney has winked at himself. I don’t think Disney ever let them before,” commented the director.
Dempsey also claimed that his character Robert had undergone a change “completely liberating” for him as an interpreter.
‘Disenchanted’ is now available for reproduction at streaming on Disney+.
