If the England players needed an extra stimulus to repeat the feat of 1966, now they have it: according to the Mail Sport newspaper, each of Gareth Southgate’s men will receive 580,000 euros (about R$ 3.2 million, at moment) if they are champions in Qatar World Cup.

The value is more than double offered at the World Cup in Russia in 2018. On that occasion, the prize in case of conquest would be 250,000 euros each. The English team finished in fourth place.

England, by the way, makes his World Cup debut on Mondaystarting at 10:00 (Brasilia time), against Iran, at the Khalifa International Stadium.

England and Iran will face two very different teams in historical terms. The English were champions in 1966 and finished their participation in the last edition in fourth place. The Iranians, on the other hand, intend to enter the knockout stage for the first time.

On the English side, the centerpiece is Harry Kane, who was top scorer at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The centre-forward has 75 appearances for the national team, with 51 goals and 14 assists.

The Tottenham player enters the World Cup with 13 goals scored and three assists in 22 games this season. In the Premier League he is joint top scorer with 12 goals scored, behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland with 18.

Group B of the Cup still sees the presence of the United States and Wales. The teams will compete again this Monday, but at 16:00 (Brasilia time), at the Ahmed bin Ali stadium.
