“Vikings: Valhalla”: Season 2 gets premiere date and new characters

Netflix confirmed the release date of the second season of ‘Vikings: Valhalla’, the spin-off series of ‘Vikings’ created by Jeb Stuart who, in turn, revealed more about the new locations and characters of the production.

With the way Kattegat fell at the end of the first season, the situation of the main trio of the series, consisting of Leif (Sam Corlett), Freydís (Frida Gustavsson) and Harald (Leo Suter) will not be easy in the new episodes.

“The whole concept of season 2 is to take these three heroes who are in Scandinavia and push them out of their comfort zones,” Stuart told Netflix. Tudum🇧🇷 “The second season of Harald and Leif is a journey: it’s Thelma and Louise on the Dnieper River. The two will begin this incredible journey. Freydís has to go to Pomerania, which is a very difficult environment.”

Pomerania used to be a region located where Poland and Germany are now, and will be a new setting for “Vikings: Valhalla”. With new places come new characters and Netflix has introduced the first group of kings and rulers who will side with, and possibly against, the protagonists of the series.

Among them is Harekr (Bradley James), “the ruler of Jómsborg, a sort of legendary Viking place where heathen Vikings lived.” Stuart describes him as “a great warrior” but warned that he “has a target on his back for all our heathen hunters like Olaf”.

Hayat Kamille also joins the cast to play Mariam, “an astronomer trapped in Novgorod”. Marcin Doronciski plays Olaf and Harald’s “tough love” uncle, King Yaroslav the Wise, while Sofya Lebedeva plays Elena, the daughter of a Russian nobleman.

With this new information, it’s clear that “Vikings: Valhalla” goes beyond Scandinavia. We’ll see where Leif, Freydis and Harald’s journey takes starting January 12, 2023, when the series premieres, according to Netflix’s announcement.
