FIFA opens disciplinary case against Ecuador for offensive chants of fans at the opening of the Cup


The body has not yet specified the content of the words spoken by the fans, but stressed that they are based on Article 13 of its disciplinary code

FIFA announced on Tuesday that it has opened disciplinary proceedings against the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF). The determination was born thanks to the offensive chants of the South American country’s fans in the opening match of World Cup against Qatar.

However, the body has not yet specified the content of the words spoken by the fans, but stressed that they are based on article 13 of its disciplinary code. “Offends the dignity or integrity of a country, person or group with words that are disrespectful, derogatory, discriminatory or offensive.”

It is worth mentioning that the punishment for this type of offense is “ten games suspension” when it comes to a player, coach or director, and a fine of “at least 20,000 Swiss francs (R$112,000)” and one game restricted public when it comes to a federation.
