“1899”: The creators reveal the plans for the future of the series

The showrunners and creators of ‘1899,’ the Netflix series that debuted last week, have spoken about plans for the future of the production, including how they want the series to end.

Netflix’s latest sci-fi mystery series has caught viewers trying to figure out what’s really going on. The eight-part series is set on a mysterious steamer called Kerberos and follows a group of European migrants who travel from London to New York in search of a new life.

However, all is not as it seems in the series, which attracted attention even before its release for being from the same creators of ‘Dark’, a German science fiction series that ran for three seasons, ending up being a big hit for Netflix .

During the first season, many revelations begin to be made about what is really going on. Even the mysteries don’t end there, with several questions still unanswered at the end of the eighth episode, which concludes the first season.

Viewers are already wondering if the series will get a second season. But even though Netflix hasn’t yet decided on the future of ‘1899’, showrunners Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar have shared their plans beyond the first season, beyond the series’ ideal length.

“What we’re constantly doing is playing with expectations,” Friese told Al indiewire🇧🇷 “You read a code and you expect something and you feel safe in it. You think you understand. We are breaking this expectation and hope to give you a satisfactory answer. At least at the end of season three, but hopefully during season one.

Odar continued, “We’re giving a huge response in episode seven of season one. It’s not a constant, ‘Yeah, we had you’ and then you see that in season three. Season 1 is about establishing a big theme, a big thing… Let’s see if there’s a second season, and then we’ll start playing with that theme and have an ideal solution in season 3. Again, like Dark, it should be told over three seasons.

“1899” has been at the top of Netflix’s audience charts, but the streaming giant usually waits a bit before deciding on the renewal of its series.

Although the future of the series is not certain, the first season of ‘1899’ is available on Netflix.
