Iran tells Klinsmann to resign at FIFA over ‘outraged’ comment.

Iranian coach Carlos Queiroz has slammed German football icon Juergen Klinsmann for criticizing his team’s conduct at the World Cup, calling his comments “a disgrace to football” and calling on him to resign from FIFA as Iran’s soccer team federation apologized.

In comments as a BBC analyst, Klinsmann, the 1990 World Cup winner, accused Iran of “systematic catimba” during Friday’s stunning 2-0 win over Wales and said de Queiroz’s record with other national teams made him the right person for Iran.

“This is their culture and this is their way of doing it, and that’s why Carlos Queiroz is perfect for the Iranian national team,” said Klinsmann, the former United States coach.

“This is no accident, it’s all on purpose. It’s just part of their culture, that’s how they play and work with the referee… constantly in his ear, constantly talking to him closely on the pitch.” he added.

“That’s their culture and they make you lose focus and focus, which is really important to you,” she added.

Iran will face the United States in a decider in Group B on Tuesday and have a chance to reach the round of 16 of the World Cup for the first time.

Queiroz, 69, who has coached Real Madrid, Portugal and Manchester United and is in his second spell as Iran manager, said no one could harm the integrity of his team.

“You question my character with a typical biased judgment of superiority,” he said in a message to Klinsmann on social media, in comments shared by the Iranian national team.

“No matter how much I respect what you’ve done on the pitch, these comments about Iranian culture, the Iranian national team and my players are a disgrace to football.”

Queiroz called the comments “outraged”.

Iran’s football federation said it had sought clarification from FIFA and asked Klinsmann to apologize and step down from his role in FIFA’s technical study group.

The Iranian FA also invited Klinsmann to visit the Iranian national team at the World Cup “for a lecture on ancient Persian culture and the values of football and sport”.

“As a former player, he will not be judged on his famous dramatic dives. And certainly, as a professional footballer, he will not be judged on any other political or historical issue related to his country,” he added.
