Bolsonaro has only gone to Planalto five times since the defeat of Lula and completed 1 month of seclusion

The president stays away from social networks and public engagements and dispatches to the Palácio do Alvorada, his official residence

From defeat to the president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) In the second round of the presidential elections, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) concentrated his engagements on the Palácio do Alvorada, his official residence, and stopped performing at the Palácio do Planalto. In the last month, since October 30, Bolsonaro has only visited the headquarters of the federal executive five times, preferring to remain alone most of the time.

The absence of the president in Planalto and the beginning of the transition between governments gave the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB), seat of the transitional government, the status of center of power in Brasilia. Bolsonaro’s imprisonment comes amid acts promoted at the door of several barracks in which his supporters are questioning the outcome of the elections.

The president, in addition to avoiding visiting the seat of government, did not even comment on the PL’s decision to ask for the results of a series of polls to be annulled.

The seat of Lula’s transitional government becomes the center of power in Brasilia and overshadows Planalto

  • Bolsonaro returns to Planalto after 19 days of seclusion

  • Bolsonaro avoids Palazzo Planalto and, on Friday, visits also reduced by ministers

  • On November 3, Bolsonaro returned to the Planalto Palace and briefly greeted Vice President-elect Geraldo Alckmin, who had traveled there to attend a meeting with Ciro Nogueira on the government transition process. The presence of the president was not foreseen in his official agenda.

The president was then imprisoned for 20 days in Alvorada. He only returned to the seat of government on November 23, to fulfill an agenda with former minister Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), the name chosen by the PL to run for president of the Senate in 2023.

The following day he returned to the third floor of the Planalto Building, where his office is located, and met with the Deputy Head of Legal Affairs of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Renato de Lima França.

On Tuesday, the 29th, the president returned to Planalto, this time to meet the president of the Federation of Industries of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Eugenio Gouveia and, once again, the elected senator Rogério Marinho.
