The return to Middle-earth has been enjoyed by many fans of the universe in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”. The eight-episode Prime Video adventure was controversial, but garnered positive reviews from many people.
With a second season confirmed, fans are already relatively eager to know how this story will continue. Production on upcoming episodes of “The Rings of Power” is already underway and co-showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McCay have already signaled that they will listen to fans’ opinions for this development.
With that, the second season of “The Rings of Power” promises to bring new emotions, but also old acquaintances of the fans of the franchise. Which characters could appear in the series? Check out the list below!
Despite being considered deceased in ‘The Rings of Power’, Tolkien fans know that the Celeborn elf lives beyond the Second Age, having also made brief appearances in ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ and ‘The Return of the King’. Marton Csokas. If the character appears in the second season of the series, it will be explained why Galadriel thinks her husband is dead.
Saruman the White is one of the most notable characters in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy and is known for betraying the White Council by joining Sauron. In “The Rings of Power,” we have the journey of the Stranger and the narrative that will try to uncover his past. Since many bet that it is Gandalf, the appearance of the leader of the Istari, order of sorcerers, would be justifiable in the period in which he would have had to fight the advance of Sauron.
Therefore, another Istari who may appear in “The Rings of Power” is Radagast, who plays the role of protector of the forest and is a wizard close to animals. Because of this connection, he ends up not having to deal much with elves and men, but he is a great friend and ally of Gandalf, something that has been observed in The Hobbit trilogy. Radagast could be another character that would help the Stranger next season.
Ents are species of beings in Tolkien’s world that are very similar to trees and as we saw in the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, Treebeard is the leader of the group. The character has even made references to the fight between the elves and Sauron that is supposed to take place in “The Rings of Power” and although the Ents did not participate in the battle, Treebeard is a figure that could very well appear in the second season.
‘The Rings of Power’ hasn’t bothered to change some details in relation to the timeline of Tolkien’s works and with that, the elf Glorfindel could be another character that could appear in season 2. He hasn’t had a notable role in the war against Sauron in the books, mainly because he’s been in Valinor for a long time, but Amazon is free to use the character however she wishes.
Thranduil is known to be the father of the elf Legolas and stood out in ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy, played by actor Lee Pace. He may indeed appear in “The Rings of Power,” but if so, Amazon would have to create a different story for the character, as details of him mostly appear in works that the company doesn’t own the rights to.
Here is one of the most enigmatic characters in all of Tolkien’s universe. To this day, no one knows who or what Tom Bombadil really is, by many bets he is a nature spirit. In the books, Tom meets Frodo and the other hobbits on their way to Rivendell and hosts them for a time, claiming to be the oldest living creature in Middle-earth before the coming of the Valar. He would definitely be somewhere during the “Rings of Power” time, but we don’t know exactly what he’s up to.
