Robert Pattinson, protagonist of “Batman”, will be the protagonist of the film “Mickey Mouse 17”, directed by the Oscar winner for “Parasite”, the Korean Bong Joon Ho. The long-awaited film won its first pictures this Tuesday (06).
In the first “Mickey Mouse 17” teaser, Robert Pattinson can be seen going through what appears to be some sort of scientific experiment or medical procedure in some sort of isolation chamber. The twist-filled teaser culminates with a close-up of the ‘Batman’ star’s face.
While the clip doesn’t exactly give plot details, the film is based on the 2022 science fiction novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton. Here the protagonist, called Mickey 17, is considered an “expendable” in the service of a human expedition that colonizes the frozen planet of Niflheim.
Every time Mickey dies, he is resurrected in a new body with much of his memory intact. However, the reasoning behind the slight name change between the film and the book, from “Mickey7” to “Mickey 17”, remains unclear.
The film is written, directed and produced by South Korean director Bong Joon Ho, who received worldwide acclaim for his 2019 film “Parasite”, which dominated the 2020 Oscars with statuettes in the categories of Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
The adaptation of ‘Mickey Mouse 17’ was announced in January 2022, with Robert Pattinson confirmed to star in May 2022. In addition to the actor playing Batman on the big screen, ‘Mickey Mouse 17’ will feature names such as Mark Ruffalo, the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Steven Yeun (“The Walking Dead”), Toni Collette (“The Sixth Sense”) and Naomi Ackie (“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”).
Production on the Warner Bros. feature began in August of this year and shooting is expected to finish in December. Although the first teaser has been released, the movie “Mickey Mouse 17” will only hit theaters on March 29, 2024.
