Many have compared Jenna Ortega’s Merlina Addams to Christina Ricci’s, but without a doubt all the actresses who have played her have left their own mark on the character.
This includes her wacky dance moves, as all versions of Merlina Addams have had a chance to show off her best moves, have you noticed?
Lisa Loring’s Dance as Merlina Addams
Although many actresses have played Merlina Addams, the first version of this gothic character was played by Lisa Loring in the 1990s series “The Addams Family”.
Lisa Loring was only 6 years old when she gave birth to Wednesday, so she was a cuter Merlina for her young age (though she was as dark as ever).
Perhaps the most memorable dance of this version of the character is the one seen in episode 29 of season 2 of the TV show.
The chapter was titled “Luch’s Grand Romance” and revolved around how Lurch (or Largo in Spanish America) fell in love with Mrs. Trivia, a friend of Morticia Addams.
So Wednesday taught the Addams family butler to dance. The dance he shows her is called “The Drew,” and it’s become a Merlina Addams classic (even Jenna Ortega got it for her iconic dance in Tim Burton’s Netflix series).
Christina Ricci’s dance as Merlina Addams
Christina Ricci (who you can watch in “10 Things To Do Before We Break Up” for free on ViX) also played Merlina. This was done in the ’90s ‘The Addams Family’ movies.
Although his version of the character was characterized, among other things, by not showing any emotion on his face, the truth is that he even had his own dance.
This could be seen in the original 1991 film “The Addams Family” at the farewell party the family threw in honor of Uncle Lucas (aka Fester).
It was only seconds before she shared the dance floor with Laby Adams after Uncle Ting asked Margaret to dance.
Jenna Ortega’s dance as Merlina Addams
Although the Merlinas of Lisa Loring and Christina Ricci dazzled with their moves, the truth is that Jenna Ortega’s dancing in the Netflix series ‘Wednesday’ has stolen all the attention of the audience.
In an interview with Netflix, the actress admitted that she choreographed it herself, and via Twitter revealed the inspirations she took into account to create this iconic dance.
Among them the Merlina Addams dance performed by Lisa Loring in the 60s and other references, such as singers Siouxsie Sioux or Lene Lovich, as well as archival footage of goths dancing in clubs from the 80s.
Which of all the Merlina Addams dances did you like best? Did you remember each of them?
