The decision is part of a series of safety measures by Airbnb to avoid neighborhood nuisances and accidents during the end of the year.
This Thursday (8), the airbnb has announced that it will maintain the New Year’s Eve party restriction on accommodation booked through the platform. The company also has innovations in improving rules and technologies related to the prevention of unauthorized parties in 11 countries, including Brazil.
The project, implemented for the first time in 2021, encourages guests and travelers to respect the community and hosts to share their homes responsibly. The platform is committed to reducing cases of unauthorized celebrations, avoiding neighborhood unrest.
Among the new restrictions are one-night bookings in entire accommodations for guests without a positive track record or no previous bookings on the platform. The company will also be tougher with guests looking to book two- and three-night stays, with particular attention to attempts to book lodgings in the same location as the customer’s home.
According to Naba Banerjee, Director of Trust Products and Operations at airbnb“These proactive defenses will help promote responsible travel and prevent exceptional instances of unwanted behavior, as well as enable hosts, guests and the community to enjoy their holiday celebrations with greater peace of mind.”
The measures halved the accident rate in the new year
The launch is part of Airbnb’s efforts towards a global ban on parties, which was permanently enforced in June this year. The company estimates the measures contributed to a 56% global drop in accident rates over the new year. Last New Year’s Eve, around 340,000 guests were blocked or redirected while trying to book accommodation on the platform.
Measures to promote more responsible travel and strengthen the company’s stance against lodging parties include:
- Expand the Neighbor Support Channel for local communities and 24/7 security help desk to allow hosts and guests to contact Airbnb security directly for assistance;
- The rollout of booking analytics technology, in the US and Canada, which blocks certain bookings that show an increased risk of parts and property damage – to be rolled out globally in Q2 2023;
- Tips for hosts on how to avoid parties in their places.
