With space exploration well advanced, scientists discover an exomoon called Pandora. This environment is inhabited by large bluish-skinned creatures. These beings are called Na’vi.

These people, divided into clans, live in forests, live with wild animals and are devoted to nature. Eywa, the Great Mother, is the deity worshiped by the Na’vi. For them, she is the force that connects the living creatures of Pandora.

A crippled Marine, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), is chosen to replace his dead twin brother in a program run by the powerful RDA, a non-governmental organization that exploits Pandora. The RPG seeks to mine a rare and very expensive mineral called unobtainium, which is present in Pandora.

Jake joins a program called Avatar upon arriving on Pandora. In it, scientists created copies of the Na’vi to explore Pandora and try to get closer to the natives. Jake assumes one of these bodies, created for his brother, and begins living with the Na’vi after being rescued by Neytiri (Zoë Saldaña).

She is the princess of the forest clan, the Omatakaya. This indigenous group lives in forests. Jake receives instructions from Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) to influence the Na’vi to abandon their land so humans can mine the rare mineral present there. Scientist Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) tries to influence Jake to find out more about people’s culture and religion.

Jake begins to question his mission and values as he continually lives with the Na’vi. He ends up uncovering a corruption scheme in the GDR. Also, he falls in love with Neytiri.
