It is very surprising that even in 2022, with a World Cup in Qatar, a country known for its oppressive culture towards women, my looks have attracted more attention. It’s all so crazy, do we really want to talk about what I’m wearing? I, Deborah, who have been so well known to the general public for over 30 years. I am very surprised that people still feel that we have to adapt. I don’t have to adjust to anything. Neither. I am what I am, if you don’t like it don’t follow me, don’t look at me, turn off the television, nobody has to adapt to anything.
Did all this controversy happen because it was a woman presenting a soccer program?
Much has been said about the hypersexualisation of women in football, the hypersexualisation of women exists in society as a whole. We can’t blame the clothes the woman is wearing. It’s not about that, it’s about a society that needs to look at women with respect, and if I’m a sensual woman, if I want to expose my body, that’s my problem.
Have you received many disrespectful messages?
Many. People have texted me things like: ‘you must be respectful’. I respect myself so much, I respect myself so much that I am who I want to be. Others have to respect me. I don’t go around wanting people to dress like me, think like me, be free like me, relate like me, or raise their kids like me. I care about my life and I respect those who care about yours.

I remember the next day a colleague from SportTV asked me if I regretted it. I replied that on the contrary, if there was all this noise, it would be more than necessary, I would do more and more, because we need to talk about it.
How do you educate your daughter to understand the differences?
I recently recorded a children’s program with my daughter and one of the frames is called ‘The Hour of History’ where the geometric shapes place a square as king of the city, and that square says that only exact squares can inhabit it, so the circles begin to fold into squares. We are telling this story to make children understand that it is good to be different.

Oh man, how hard is that. We have a big rivalry with Argentina in football, but I can’t support France. France is a colonizing country, we here, colonized, with so little, so I think I will support Argentina. In my opinion it is a dispute between a country that already has many joys against a country that needs happiness.
