Consulting puts bots on the hunt for taxes paid by companies

A technology-based tax consultancy, Roit, has deployed more than 200 robots and AI to look for any loopholes that companies have missed while settling scores with the lion. With this, according to Roit, his clients would have stopped disbursing R$ 1 billion in taxes that would have been paid unduly.

Customers include Madero and McDonald’s restaurant chains as well as e-commerce, health and agribusiness companies. In one of the most successful cases, the client received a tax credit declaration equal to 5-6% of the turnover.

The bots perform simple tasks, such as downloading federal revenue files to cross-reference calculation bases and rates. From there, 77 dashboards (panels that allow the display of indicators) are generated with analysis of the business scenario.

Artificial intelligence replaces the tax analyst or tax specialist

According to tax attorney and CEO of Roit, Lucas Ribeiro, data crossing uses artificial intelligence, which replaces the tax analyst or tax specialist. “Not only does he know the legislation, but he also learns with every new customer who enters the base,” says Ribeiro.

Today Roit has recorded 2.1 billion possible tax scenarios, identifiable through programming. That’s over 400 gigabytes of data processed per day, 2 billion operations per month, and 30 requests per second. “The robot sees the rate for each product, what basis of calculation is applied, whether there is a tax benefit and whether it has been applied,” he says.

“The most common mistake is to generalize the payment of taxes”

Most of the undue taxes recovered refer to the Corporate Income Tax (IRPJ), Social Contribution on Net Income (CSLL), Social Integration Program (PIS) and Contribution for the Financing of Social Security (Cofins), in addition those relating to payroll.

According to Ribeiro, the most common mistake that companies make with the Revenue Agency is to generalize the payment of taxes. “The accountant’s logic is to be cautious,” he says. “He does what is written and what is more expensive for the company because it offers less risk. Robot to do it.”

The calculation takes an average of two hours, but in the case of companies with many branches and franchises, which generate a large amount of invoices, the deadline is up to two days. From an administrative point of view, the repayment of this benefit can take from three months to two years. Today the company has more than 160 employees, including software engineers, accountants and tax specialists, and has served more than 300 medium and large companies in Brazil.
