iOS 16.2 Home App update bug for some users

The idea of iOS 16.2 was to better support smart devices, but the effect was just the opposite: crashes, errors and unusability

iOS 16.2 didn’t bring much to the average user, but it did bring major additions to the Home app (Home, in English) for those who have a “smart home”. The problem is that this seems to have caused problems such as crashes, sharing errors and devices not being found.

iOS 16.2 Home App update bug for some users

Users have taken to Reddit and other forums to report problems they’ve noticed after the update. HomeKit devices were stuck in an update or setup state, while others disappeared completely from the network.

Some people say they can no longer invite people to control their home remotely. In another negative report, a user said that the camera system stopped recording videos.

On the other hand, some people have reported that they have not encountered any problems, in fact, there are several compliments. One user said the lights responded much faster after the update, while others praised the camera load time and how it improved switching between them.

Apple has suspended the Home update

This difference of opinion made the Apple stop deploying until it figures out what may have happened. The company hasn’t released any statements so far, but has preferred to remove the Home app update until it fixes the flaws.

The idea of the update was to help owners of Internet-connected appliances and devices control them with better performance through the iphone or iPads. According to Apple, devices compatible with the HomeKit and Matter standard should essentially benefit from it.

Additionally, smart bulbs, HomePods, and Apple TVs should also integrate better with cell phone controls. But what many people saw was the exact opposite.

What has changed with iOS 16.2?

HeyOS 16.2 was released last week not very new. A few new lock screen widgets and new editing options for the Always-on Display were the highlights.

Apple’s new software also adds end-to-end encryption in iCloud. Notes, backups, photos, videos and other categories of data have been encrypted from sending to arriving at the sender.

For those who own tablets, the Apple also released iPadOS 16.2, especially the support of Stage Manager and Freeform a new annotation app. The former lets you connect your iPad to an external monitor or Mac to extend your desktop. Freeform works like a whiteboard and is FaceTime compatible.
