Lula’s team recommends ending the privatization process of Petrobras and six other state-owned companies

In addition to the oil company, the newly elected government must paralyze the concession processes of Correios, EBC, Nuclep, PPSA, Conab and SPA, which controls the Port of Santos

BRASÍLIA – The final report presented this Thursday 22 by the transition team of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva indicated that state-controlled companies could see privatization processes canceled in 2023.

The recommendation is to stop the privatization plans of Petrobras, Correios, Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), Nuclebrás Equipamentos Pesados (Nuclep), Empresa Brasileira de Administração de Petroleo e Gás Natural (PPSA) and Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab).

“The proposal is to review the list of companies that are in the preparatory stages of the privatization processes and have not yet completed them. It is suggested that the President of the Republic issue an ordinance addressing the competent Ministries”, reads the document .

Each of these state-owned companies is at a different stage in the privatization process – some haven’t even started – and the order now is to cripple everything. Lula has already stressed, in more than one speech, that his government will put an end to privatization plans and that foreign companies are welcome, as long as they come to invest in the country, and not to buy national state-owned companies.

“Privatisation is coming to an end in this country. They have already privatized almost everything, but it will end and we will show that some public companies will be able to show their profitability,” the president-elect said in a December 13 speech.

Porto Santos

There is at least one other state-owned company that will see the process halted, the Santos Port Authority (Spa), formerly Codesp, which controls the port of Santos. Yesterday the the future Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França, declared that the process for the concession of the Port of Santos, which was underway, will also be canceled🇧🇷

as the Stadium revealed, the future governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, who managed the project when he was Minister of Infrastructure in the Bolsonaro governmentwill seek Lula and França for a direct talk on the matter, hoping to convince the PT government that the concession is the best option for the growth of the port complex.
