The information was confirmed by Steve Blackman, showrunner of The Umbrella Academy, on social networks. Blackman responded to a fan that it’s true that the fourth season of the series will only have six episodes, four less, but that people are going to love it.

The first three seasons of The Umbrella Academy they had 10 episodes each, almost an hour long. So, the marathon has racked up nearly 10 hours a season, which can be pretty tiring. In the last one, even, the sensation was of more dragged episodes because it wasn’t as good as the previous ones.
And that was reflected in the viewership ratings which jumped from 85% and 88% in Seasons 1 and 2, respectively, to just 55%. The last few episodes even brought some interesting elements to the script, but the plot itself wasn’t that good that it stood out.
