On Saturday night, 24, the Civil Police of the Federal District arrested a man suspected of having planted an explosive on Estrada Parque Aeroporto, near Brasilia International Airport. The object was found at the side of the roadway, on the lawn of a median site.
According to police, the 54-year-old man is a businessman who traveled from Pará to Brasilia to participate in demonstrations in support of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). With him were seized two rifles, a shotgun, two revolvers, three pistols, hundreds of ammunition, camouflage uniforms and five other explosive emulsions.
The man, whose name was not disclosed, was found and taken into custody in an apartment in Sudoeste, in the central region of the Federal District – he confessed that he intended to detonate the artifact at the Juscelino Kubitschek airport. The businessman was charged with illegal possession and carrying of weapons, ammunition and explosives and an offense against the democratic rule of law.
The future Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, praised the police for the operation. “Compliment of the Civil Police of the DF for the arrest and arrests made tonight, with an apparent link to the explosive device this morning. The photos show the terrible effect of extremism in Brazil. Let us all pray for peace tonight” , he posted on Twitter.
