1920s: An amazing film, shot in one sequence, shot after his first imprisonment in Paris

Years 20 is a feature film shot in one continuous shot for one hour and thirty minutes! This atypical work, shot in the heart of Paris, was released in cinemas on April 27th.

After Paris is Ours, which airs on Netflix in April 2020, Elizabeth Vogler is back in camera for 20 years, in theaters on April 27th.

The film takes us to Paris, one evening in the summer of 2020, some time after the end of our first imprisonment. The camera follows one passer-by, then another, traveling the streets of the city and multiplying curious encounters: young eccentrics, original and non-conformist characters.

During one continuous shot, the camera connects the characters in the same area and the era of crisis, which each crosses and reads in its own way.

Since Paris is ours, a very low-budget film funded by a crowded funding campaign and shot without authorization on the streets of Paris, director Elizabeth Vogler continues to search for new ways of creating cinema in her 20th year.

“I continue my search for reality by imagining the camera as a thread that connects existence”he says.

Note that Elizabeth Vogler’s name is a pseudonym borrowed from one of the characters in the character by Ingmar Bergman, an actress who abruptly stops talking.

“Cinema is something intimate for me. I was tormented as a teenager and full of doubts. Cinema slowly allowed me to have the courage to approach who I really am. “He says and justifies his choice of anonymity.

The one-hour and thirty-minute shooting in the heart of Paris was a real tour for the team.

The rehearsals lasted a month, but not with all the actors, as screenwriter Laurent Rochett reveals.

“The film already had to work in sequence sequence. After that we repeated the configuration with the camera. But there were difficulties. For the section on the scooter, if we take a detour, this is the only way where there is only one red. Light. Camera could not be stopped.”He explains.

The film crew only rehearsed once with the entire group. Everything was really prepared on time and in advance.

“We try to control the uncontrollable in some way. For example, in the sound, we only had 11 Lavalle microphones out of 24 actors. So there was a whole system for the microphones to reach the actors. The sound engineers took the bikes. Then to the sequence.”Explains Laurent Rochette.

20 years spent with Naomi Schmidt, a young actress who was revealed with Claude Braser in L’Etudiante et monsieur Henri. Already a very large investment in Paris is ours, the actor was also very involved in this project, in particular, on an unprecedented scale tour to promote the film in France.

Indeed, the feature film team wanted to expand the 1920s experience with a series of events. In each of the 12 cities on the preview tour, they produced an episode that aired the same evening in the movie’s front room and on the Internet.

From April 9, the public could discover a new character in their hometown every day until all of them in the film were reunited in Paris.

As in the 20s, each episode is filmed once, i.e. 12 real sequence shots at the end. To make such a performance possible, a team of 15 people was constantly on the road for 15 days.
