Solar power capacity in Brazil is growing more than 60 percent during the year, Absolar says

The installed capacity of the solar photovoltaic source grew by more than 60% from January to mid-December, from 14.2 gigawatts (GW) to 23 GW, according to a report released by the Brazilian Association of Solar Photovoltaic Energy (Absolar) this Tuesday. .

Solar power capacity in Brazil is growing more than 60 percent during the year, Absolar says

The total includes large plants and systems for the self-production of electricity on roofs, facades and small plots of land, equal to 11.2% of the country’s electricity matrix.

In the last 150 days, the growth rate has been practically 1 GW per month, which places the source in third place in the Brazilian electricity matrix, as the segment benefits from state incentives at the source.

According to the institution, since 2012 the solar source has already brought about 116.6 billion reais of investments to Brazil, over 36.6 billion of revenue for the public coffers and has generated more than 690 thousand accumulated jobs. With this it has also avoided the emission of 31.1 million tons of CO2 in the generation of electricity.

For the CEO of Absolar, Rodrigo Sauaia, the growth of solar energy strengthens the sustainability and competitiveness of manufacturing sectors, which seek to decarbonise their operations with the generation of renewable energy.

Brazil has about 7.1 GW of installed capacity in large solar plants.

In the self-production segment there are practically 16 GW of installed power from solar sources.
