Today, December 26, the film-opera “Carmen”, filmed at an altitude of 1050 meters above sea level, became available in the Okko online cinema. The filming of the project took place in August 2022 during the Sochi Classical Music Festival on an open stage in the mountains.
The innovation of this version of one of the most popular operas in the world is in the use of the latest stage solutions. Thanks to the work of videographers who are on stage throughout the performance and introduced into it as heroes, the audience has the opportunity to see the artists, their facial expressions and shades of emotions as closely as possible.
The project was directed by Ilya Ustyantsev. The part of Carmen was performed by the soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre, mezzo-soprano Agunda Kulaeva. The role of Jose was played by the tenor Azer Zade, Escamillo by the soloist of the Mariinsky Theater Vladislav Sulimsky, and the role of Mikaela was performed by the soloist of the Mariinsky Opera Company Oksana Shilova. Also, young opera performers were involved in the production – the winners of the all-Russian casting, which was held with the assistance of the FES Foundation for Supporting Classical Musical Art
