Nine states will have new governors starting this Sunday. These newcomers represent a third of the 27 governors elected in 2022. The other 18 were re-elected and return to the state executive.

The re-elected governor of Rio, Cláudio Castro (PL), is the only name from the southeast region who confirmed his presence at the inauguration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as President of the Republic.

Even the governor of Minas, Romeu Zema (Novo), re-elected in October, said he will not participate in the ceremony in Brasilia.

Palácio Tiradentes denounced scheduling conflicts between the inauguration of Zema in Belo Horizonte and the event in the federal capital.
