Nasser Al-Attiyah won a battle with Charles Sainz, Stephane Peterhansel and Sebastian Loeb and won the fifth special of Dakar 2023. The pilot of Totoia finished the 373 kilometers of the stage in 4h13min23, with just over two minutes ahead of Sainz, from Audi. The four-time Dakar champion had complained about the power advantage given to the German team by the Equivalence of Technologies, but the 8kW more given to Audi weren’t enough to beat the Qatari experience.
Partner of Sainz in the German team, the French Peterhansel completed in third position, with a time of 4h17min07s. Yazeed Al-Rajhiby Overdrive, and Guerlain Chicheritfrom GCK, completed the top-5 of the test held this Thursday (5).

Henk Lategan is sixth, just ahead of the Brazilian Luca Moraes, who finished the special with a time of 4h29min39s. Giniel de Villiers was eighth, with lob only in ninth position after a mechanical problem at kilometer 355 which cost him 20 minutes. Vaidotas Zala finished tenth.

Quintero recovers and wins in light prototypes

Baciuska wins over UTVs and Luppi de Oliveira remains leader
On UTVs, victory went to the Lithuanian Roka Baciuskafrom Red Bullwho closed the special with a time of 5h02min52, just five seconds ahead of the Brazilian Christian Baptistby South Racing Can-AM.
His teammate, Saudi Arabian Yasir Seaidan completed the 2023 Dakar fifth stage podium in UTV. Fourth was the Spaniard Gerard Farres Guell, with the Brazilian class leader Rodrigo Luppi de Oliveira finishing fifth, with the mark of 5h07min25s.
