‘Grease’ will have a prequel: find out who’s who in ‘Pink Ladies’ and what the series is about

In 2022, “Grease” fans mourned the death of Olivia Newton-John at the age of 73, but now fans of the film can remember her legacy with a prequel.

The new series titled ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’ opens in 2023 and will be set before the events of the original musical starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

This ‘Grease’ prequel will focus on the girls in pink leather jackets at Rydell High School led by Betty Rizzo (Stockard Channing), Sandy’s friend/rival, played by Olivia Newton-John.

Thanks to a teaser shared by Paramount+, we can learn more about the story of this prequel series to the classic musical, as well as the actresses who will play the Pink Ladies at Rydell School.

  • John Travolta also appeared in movie “Enemy in the house”, which you can watch for free on ViX.

What is ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’ the ‘Grease’ prequel?

The series will begin in the year 1954, four years before the summer Danny and Sandy met in the film (when she dies according to one theory), and will show how four old-fashioned girls form the iconic group.

The official synopsis says that the Pink Ladies will set off a moral panic that will change Rydell High School forever. Even the story is based on the real Pink Ladies who attended the original musical’s creator’s school.

This was confirmed to Entertainment Weekly on December 19, 2022 by Paramount+ series creator Annabel Oakes, explaining why the prequel will focus specifically on the girl group.

“I thought, ‘What about the Pink Ladies?’ Were these girl gangs real?’ I started Googling and found out that there were actual Pink Ladies at the high school of original ‘Grease’ creator Jim Jacobs.’

Jane Facciano is the most similar to Jan (Jamie Donnelly) from the original film, being a bit of a “nerd”, passionate about always seeking to do the right thing and wanting to be friends with everyone.

The rest of the cast consists of Shanel Bailey as Hazel, Madison Thompson as Susan, Johnathan Nieves as Richie, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper as Wally and Jackie Hoffman as Assistant Principal McGee.
