Gran Turismo: Game Adapted for Cinemas Wins Preview; look

the videogame Gran Turismo will hit the big screen with an adaptation of the same name and although it is still a few months away, the film has won a preview presented at CES 2023.

According to Sony, Gran Turismo “is the story of the wish fulfillment of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills have won him a series of Nissan competitions to become a true professional race car driver.” This narrative is based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough.

The preview presented during CES 2023 consists of a behind-the-scenes video of the film, which includes some small scenes presented by the main actors of the adaptation based on a true story. The film is slated for an August release, so it’s understandable that Sony’s expectations are high, after all the reveals have already kicked off strongly several months before the premiere.

Gran Turismo is directed by Neill Blomkamp from a screenplay by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. The film is produced by Doug Belgrad, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan and Dana Brunetti, with Kazunori Yamauchi, Herman Hulst, Jason Hall and Matthew Hirsch as executive producers. The cast includes big names like David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe, Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell Horner and Djimon Hounsou.

Moreover Gran TurismoSony has several video game adaptation projects in development, including a Ghosts of Tsushimathe television series The Last of Uswhich will premiere on HBO later in January, and an adaptation of Twisted metal for Peacock. With these projects, Sony is trying to break the “curse” of video game adaptations, which usually don’t work well.

However, while the studio is betting on the depth of the characters of The Last of Us, Gran Turismo brings another advantage: since it is a super realistic racing simulation game, the studio is not tied to a specific story to adapt, only involving the car racing aesthetics of the game.

Gran Turismo is scheduled to premiere in Brazilian theaters on August 10, 2023.
