How To Clean Your Twitter Feed | Practical guide


Twitter has many tools so you can clean up your feed and organize the types of content that will appear on your timeline

Social networks are great for reading news, seeing memes and keeping up with trivia, and the Twitter it is one of the most popular. However, the content that comes your way isn’t always the best or what matters most. That’s why it’s important to know how to clean up your Twitter feed.

In this practical guide to the social network, you will find the main functions available on Twitter to personalize the content that comes to you through your feed.

1. Content preferences

By default, Twitter’s timeline features all the tweets Twitter thinks you might be interested in, but you can change this to “Latest Tweets.”

  1. In the upper right corner, tap the history icon;
  2. Tap “Skip to Latest Tweets”.

2. Choose Topics

When you create a Twitter account, a number of topics are presented to understand your preferences, but this can be changed in the future.

  1. Tap your profile picture and access the “Topics” option;
  2. In the “Following” menu you can remove what you don’t want by tapping “Following”;
  3. Then tap “Unfollow…”;
  4. In the “Suggested” menu you can find themes that you can add to your topic list.

3. Ad preferences

It’s not possible to disable ads on Twitter, but you can control what comes to your feed. The “Ad preferences” function is based on your activity on the social network, offering you personalized content. To activate, follow the steps below.

  1. Tap your profile picture in the upper left corner;
  2. Open the “Settings and Support” menu;
  3. Enter “Settings and Privacy”;
  4. Tap “Privacy and security”;
  5. Scroll down to the “Data sharing and personalization” section;
  6. Tap “Ad Preferences” and turn on “Custom Ads”.

4. Mute profiles

If you don’t want to unfollow a profile, but don’t want to see their posts on your timeline, simply use the “Mute” function. For this, you have to access the profile you want to mute and follow the steps below.

  1. On the profile you want to mute, tap the icon in the upper right corner;
  2. Then tap “Mute” and confirm by tapping “Yes, I’m sure”.
