‘Outlander’, season 6: Who has killed Malva?

Was Claire the murderer of Tom Christie’s daughter?

Spoilers for ‘Outlander’ season 6 below

We already knew that the Christie family was going to cause trouble for the residents of Fraser’s Ridge in ‘Outlander’ this season. But Not even Claire herself could have foreseen that these newcomers would start a series of events that would lead to her being accused of murder. by the armed Security Committee.

Pious Freemason Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones), who had been imprisoned with Jamie in Ardsmuir, Scotland, decades earlier, moved to Ridge in the first episode of the sixth season, along with his son Allan (Alexander Vlahos) and daughter Malva (Jessica Reynolds).

At first it seemed that Allan would be the one to cause trouble, as he stole a powder horn as soon as he arrived, but as Alexander Vlahos revealed in an interview with digital spy, it’s the entirety of the Christie family that Claire and Jamie should be (a lot) worried about.

“There’s almost a snowball effect with the Christies”revealed, “where they do one thing which then leads to something else, which then leads to heartbreak and destruction and carnage”. And to murder too, as we saw later.

While Tom warned his children to stay away from the Fraser family, his daughter Malva was fascinated by them and Claire in particular. It wasn’t long before she helped with Claire’s surgery despite knowing her father would disapprove. But Malva liked to flirt with danger, even going so far as to spy on Jamie and Claire having sex in her barn. Things came to a head, of course, in episode 6 when Malva revealed that she was pregnant and declared that Jamie – oops – was the father.. (She cleverly backed up his story with a description of Jamie’s scars that she had seen when he peeked out the barn door.)

He denied it, and, although Malva was known to have been more than friendly with other Fraser’s Ridge men, including young Ian (John Bell), there were many residents who believed that Jamie was responsible, so the Frasers found themselves ostracized.

Claire and Jamie may have thought things couldn’t get any worse, but the episode ended with Claire discovering Malva’s body in her orchard, with the girl’s throat slit. Without thinking, Claire’s medical instincts kicked in and she pulled the baby out of Malva in an attempt to save it, but the baby was dead as well.

As expected, being found next to a dead woman and her baby, with a knife in her hand, made Claire a suspect in Malva’s murderbut could he really have done it?

Author Diana Gabaldon’s sixth book, ‘A Breath Of Snow And Ashes’, contains the answer, of course, but we wouldn’t put our hands in the fire: It would not be the first time that the producers of ‘Outlander’ changed the events of the novelsLike when they brought back a fan-favorite character, Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix), who died in Culloden in the books but lived a few more decades and came to America in the series.

Claire certainly had a motive to kill Malva, and that’s all the evidence the sinister Ridge Safety Committee seems to need. in her eyes, Claire killed her because Malva was having an affair with Jamie and was pregnant by him.. It doesn’t help her case that when Jamie, Allan and Tom find Claire, she’s standing over Malva’s body, covered in blood and holding a possible murder weapon (the lawn mower she used to deliver the baby).

You could argue that Claire is a doctor who would never take a life on purpose, but then you’d be forgetting that she’s killed before. Yes, Claire has a murderous past: knowingly poisoned Comte St Germain in the second season and also stabbed an English deserter in the first season. However, we’d be quite surprised if Claire were the killer, though, because of some substances she’s been inhaling lately that are numbing her brain, even she herself isn’t that sure of her innocence.

It is also unlikely that her husband, Jamie, would have killed Malva. Imagine the fan outcry if the ‘king of men’ from ‘Outlander’ was a murderer! Besides, there are other potential suspects for viewers to ponder.

The first is Allan Christie, Malva’s brother. She must have heard the rumors about her sister’s secret relationships with the Ridge men, and may have believed that she would be protecting the Christie family name if she got rid of her sister and her ‘son. bastard of her’ of her.

Then there is young Ian, who confessed to Claire that he had slept with Malva, so he could be the father of her baby.. She’s so loyal to his family, and especially to Jamie, that if she weren’t so utterly lovable after his experiences with the Mohawk, she might go to great lengths to protect the people who mean the most to him.

And let’s not forget the pious, devoted and incredibly stern patriarch Tom Christie. He certainly would have been angry that her unmarried daughter was pregnant, but would that have led him to kill her? It’s hard to be sure. When he was shown the body of his daughter, Tom asked Claire if Malva had suffered or if it had been a quick death. That sounds like a heartbroken parent’s question, until he adds another question: “No time to pray for his acquittal, then? A short prayer that would have made things right with God?” And let’s not forget that he later describes his own daughter and granddaughter as “a prostitute and an illegitimate daughter.” Precious.

The killer, of course, will be revealed when the ‘Outlander’ team is ready. (or you can get a copy of ‘A Breath Of Snow And Ashes’ to be pretty sure who made it), and with the Revolutionary War looming, the identity of Malva’s killer isn’t the only thing Jamie and Claire You should worry about the next few days…
