For his latest feature films, director Christopher Landon has injected a real sense of fun into the slasher genre, showcasing entertaining mixes of genres like horror and time-loop mystery. happy death day and its sequel, and the 2020 Bloody Body Swap Murder Festival Strange. For Landon’s next feature, that sense of fun remains, but we have a ghost marks something like a pivot for the director. The chainsaw sets are out and the ghosts of family are in, with this Amblin-inspired story of a benevolent ghost and the family who discover him haunting their home. “I really wanted to work out some muscles that I felt like I had, but hadn’t been able to use yet,” says Landon. Empire. “One of them is this great heartwarming story that really pays off in the end.”
be inspired by Ernesta Vice–published story, we have a ghost centers on the friendship that forms between an outcast boy and the smiling specter looming in his new home, nicknamed “Ernest” (due to his resemblance to the actor Ernest Borgnine), and played by David Harbour. It is essentially a physical performance of the Strange things stars, like Ernest, who remember nothing of his life, can’t speak, but a lot of personality shines through. “[David and I] explained that underneath all the sadness and memory loss, there were still the seeds of a truly loving man who was a little bit mischievous and cunning,” explains Landon. “I liked the idea that Ernest was a scruffy guy, who looked like an accountant.”
It’s an apt name as it appears to be Landon’s most serious film to date, and we’ll know more shortly, because Empire can you confirm it? we have a ghost will debut exclusively on Netflix starting February 24th.
