When asked if he had asked his coaching team’s opinion about abandoning the match, Rafa clarified: “I didn’t ask my team whether or not I should abandon. I’m old enough to make my own decisions. I don’t know. I want to withdraw. from the game being the defender of the title. I did my best until the end,” he concluded.

It is worth pointing out that when Nadal received medical treatment on the pitch, in addition to his team’s concern, his wife, Maria Francisca Perello Nadal, cried (photo below).

Rafa told reporters that he doesn’t know exactly what kind of injury he has. He called for attention to his left leg after he felt something during the second set of his match against McDonald.

“It’s the left hip. I don’t know what the problem is. If it’s the muscle, if it’s the joint. I have a history with the hip, I’ve had treatments in the past, but now it’s hard to tell what it is, I have to do some tests to see what’s going on,” he mused.

“It’s a difficult day. These are very difficult times. I’m tired of always talking about injuries. It’s very, very difficult mentally to go through all that process and work that goes into recovery again.” the Spaniard spat.
