Eddie Murphy talks about how he was convinced to return to Heavy Duty Cop 4

Actor Eddie Murphy will return to the franchise A heavy duty, with the fourth film in the series arriving almost 30 years after the third film and almost 40 years after the first installment in the series. With the fourth film taking more than 10 years to develop, Murphy explains what finally convinced him it was worth returning. A heavy duty.

A recent successful example of a franchise returning after decades of waiting is Top Gun: nonconformistand his producer Jerry Bruckheimer, was instrumental in Eddie Murphy’s decision with A heavy duty. In conversation with colliderthe iconic comedian who became an international superstar thanks to A heavy duty 1984 and its two sequels, explained how Bruckheimer was instrumental in getting him to return to his biggest role after a 29-year absence from the franchise.

“When he got involved and started developing the script, he knew what to do. A heavy duty it should be. When he got involved again, that’s when it all started to fall into place,” said Murphy, who shares production credits with Bruckheimer. “Because we’ve been trying for years and years, maybe 10, 12 years, and I must have read five or six different scripts, and it never worked.”

The actor continued, “The studio said, ‘Let’s go. Here it is.’ He was like, ‘It’s not just that.’ Jerry Bruckheimer is back there, and he knows what he’s doing, and he’s put it all together. He did [Top Gun: Maverick] last year, e Bad guys it’s Jerry Bruckheimer. So we have the same brain behind it A heavy duty and he put all the pieces in place that we needed to make a great movie. And I’m excited for people to watch it.”

Directed by Martin Brest, A heavy duty it was the highest-grossing film of 1984, grossing $316 million worldwide. Its 1987 sequel, Heavy Cop 2, directed by Tony Scott, grossed just over half of the original and received mixed reviews. Already Heavy Cop 3a 1994 film directed by John Landis, it achieved the lowest box office and worst reviews of the franchise.

The first A heavy duty is available in Brazil on Netflix, while the other two sequels are on Prime Video. The sequel will be distributed by Netflix, at an as-yet-undisclosed date.
