Netflix: The most realistic movie about the hospital coming to the platform

Hippocrates tops the list of new movies added to the Netflix catalog in May. In the 2014 Thomas Lilt film, starring Vincent Lacoste and Reda Cats in a powerful drama.

Before starting to create a series with Hippocrates, former doctor Thomas Lilty filmed a film also called Hippocrates, in 2014 with Vincent Lacoste and Reda the Chickens. He tells of the beginning of Benjamin (Vincent Lacoste)’s medical career as an intern in a job run by his father.

He works with Abdel (Reda Cats), an Algerian FFI, or doctor who graduated in Algeria but serves as an intern. Hospitals with deficiencies often turn to these FFIs, who work for low pay, before waiting to receive a French diploma.

Benjamin quickly becomes frustrated during this internship, which confronts him with the harsh reality of French hospitals. Similarly, his relationship with Abdel deteriorates when he blames the patient for his death after an electrocardiogram malfunction, when the negligence was due to Benjamin.

Thomas Lilt takes on this daily routine, at the same time usually overwhelmed with cruel and human emotions. He puts his camera closer to reality, without reducing romance and facts. It reflects the gap between nursing staff – engaged in a passionate profession, the desire to be in the service of others – and the lack of hospital resources, the result of harmful public policy.

But it is, above all, a film to the praise of the caregivers who run the hospital with courage and confidence.

Hippocrates is now available on Netflix.
