And as expected, this second episode brings several references and easter eggs from the games to the series with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Check it out here with Game start some of the references and easter eggs present that appear in this second episode of The Last of Us.
stuffed giraffe

You can see a stuffed giraffe under a car tire as Ellie, Joel, and Tess race through Boston. The animal toy is a reference to an emblematic and touching scene that will take place later, towards the end of the first game.
Ellie can’t swim

When the protagonists arrive at a partially flooded hotel, Ellie reveals that she cannot swim. In the game, she also cannot swim, a fact that makes it essential for the player to solve environmental puzzles to find alternative ways for the girl to cross the water. The series solves the problem in another way: the water here is only waist deep, at least in this part of the adventure.
doors locked

Locked doors are also present in the game, and like environments with water, they serve to prepare the player for more environmental puzzles, where alternative ways must be found to get through or unlock the door – as Tess did in the second episode of the series, while Joel and Ellie take the opportunity to get to know each other a little better, or at least try to.
Boston museum

The scenes inside the museum are a great recreation of part of the first game, when Joel, Ellie and Tess are forced to go through it on their journey to find the fireflies. The place is dark and scary, the perfect environment for Clickers to stalk their prey – they can’t see, but are able to locate themselves by the sounds of their victims. In the game, the main strategy is to sneak around them or throw objects in another direction to confuse them.
Goodbye Tess

Tess doesn’t last long in the game, and her (cruel) fate has been preserved in the series. The scene where she reveals she’s been infected is pretty much the same as in the game, however her death happens differently. In the game, the smuggler stays behind to hold off the pursuing soldiers, keeping them busy enough for Joel and Ellie to escape, and ends up dying by gunshot.
In the HBO series, Tess stays behind to finish off a group of infected so Joel and Ellie have time to escape. She sets a trap with fuel and explosives and blows up the place, blowing up monsters and herself-this after being kissed (???) by a zombie.
