Textor explains Botafogo’s goals for the coming seasons and wants a “big title” in 2025

The North American clarified the moment of the Glorious and highlighted the financial issues of the past, which hinder some progress he would like to make immediately

After a year of the SAF poll in Botafogo, John Textor participated in a live broadcast on the “Fogão Net” portal with other independent pages that cover the club on a daily basis. In it, the billionaire projected Glorioso’s future and revealed his goals for the upcoming seasons. In the last one he managed to close as he would like, remaining in the first division and qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana.

During the live broadcast, the American was accused by a fan of having won major titles. The entrepreneur explained that in this first year the goal was to prevent the club from going bankrupt and returning to the second division. At the same time, Alvinegro still gets a place in a continental competition.

– I will correct this young man. This club was sold to me to get out of bankruptcy. I bought Botafogo in that situation and had to find a way to survive from the Second Division to the First Division. I scored two goals in the first of the year, not returning to the Second Division and qualifying for the Sudamericana. We made it. Now, people say, “John, you have to win titles now now now.” I’ll tell you what my goals are. The club gets better every year. This year we got a place in Sudamericana, next year we want Libertadores, next year we want to be in the top three and next year, in 2025, we want to win a big title. I say this because I too like to dream. It will be very difficult, but I like to dream – he scored.

Most of the fans understand the difficulty of the challenge, 10% of the fans would like me to go bankrupt and Botafogo to win a championship. Somehow I have to please everyone – said John Textor.

Textor also pointed out that the association’s financial problems and debts have hindered some progress. The American also criticized the current SAF law and explained the context in which the past reappears.

– The SAF law is violated and does not work. We cannot operate with the future in mind because past debts continue to interfere with the club. From the outset, we understand that the Brazilian courts have not been careful to interpret the SAF law as it should have been. I think we should run the club without worrying about past problems. All creditors must fall under the centralized enforcement regime and must not interfere with the functioning of the SAF. That’s all in the past, we’re up to date with our payments,” she explained.

Botafogo is back on the field next Thursday, at 7.30pm, at the Luso-Brasileiro stadium. The opponent will be Madureira, in a match valid for the fourth round of the Carioca Championship. The duel against Vasco, which should have been held this Monday, was postponed to February 16 at the request of the principal and criticized by the Portuguese commander.
