Why did Harrison Ford want to play ‘Indiana Jones’ for the last time?

‘Indiana Jones’ surrenders to nothing, not even to the passage of time. Four decades have passed since the theatrical release of his first adventure, ‘Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark’ (1981), one of the best adventure films in cinema history. Since then, we have seen Harrison Ford in the shoes of this adventurous archaeologist in its purpose of rescuing some of the most important lost relics in the history of mankind.

Now, 42 years later, we will see the fifth of his cinematic exploits in ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate’, which will be released in mid-2023. How has the actor resisted the passage of time and the continuous comings and goings with this character?Was it clear from the beginning that your commitment would be of a similar duration?

Recently, at the presentation of his latest Apple TV+ comedy series, ‘Shrinking’, the actor stopped to talk to Variety and admitted: “He wanted to do the rest of the story to see the end of his career.“

However, his intentions do not seem to have a closed objective. The actor, who has already crossed the border of 80 years, is clear that this will be his farewell with Indiana: “This is the last time for me.“

Despite the fact that this marks the end of the actor in the franchise, we can feel lucky to have attended one of the longest character developments in movie history. Rarely will there be the possibility of contemplating something like this.

To make this passage of time more evident, and as we discovered a few weeks ago, The new ‘Indiana Jones’ movie will see its protagonist drastically rejuvenated in the first sequence of the film. James Mangold, director of the new film, spoke about his desire to maintain the essence of the original films: “I wanted the opportunity to delve into this George and Steven style.and give the audience a shot of adrenaline,” he commented. “Suddenly, we travel to 1969. So the audience does not experience the change from 40 to 60 as an intellectual conceptbut literally live the spirit of the first days… and then the beginning of the now.“
