“We were all crying non-stop.”
Dave Bautista returns to the big screen this week with the premiere of ‘Knock on the Door’. Also, in summer, we will see him saying goodbye to his character, Drax, in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’.
The MCU movie will mark the end of this particular group of Guardians, and we still haven’t gotten around to the fact that Bautista won’t be playing the role anymore. Shortly after finishing the tape, the actor had to start filming ‘Knock on the Door’, so he could hardly process the end of ‘Guardians’.
“I never got a chance to say goodbye to everyone. I didn’t have that moment of realizing that it was over, of realizing the end. I still haven’t passed the duel,” Bautista told Digital Spy.
“I have talked about it, but the emotion has not yet overtaken me. I know he will when he sees the movie, when I get together with everyone for the promotion and we say goodbye.”
Judging by the first trailer for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, the outcome will be heartbreaking for fans. If we’re going to be excited to see it, the cast was also excited to shoot it.
“There were days when we talked about it. We took photos and videos. I remember filming the last scene where we were all together,Bautista commented.
“It wasn’t the last day, it wasn’t even close to it. But it was the last time the original ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ group was going to meet on set.. We were all crying. I’m sure it will happen to us more times.”
Furthermore, he added: “ANDIt’s a bittersweet feeling. I feel proud and satisfied with what we have done and what we left behind. But also I let go of people I’ve been with for 10 years. Now they are my family, I love them deeply.”
While we wait to find out if the cast will reunite at a later date (perhaps in one of James Gunn’s new DC projects), Bautista has reflected on how the launch of the first film was and the risk it posed to Marvehe.
Both Guardians movies have been highly regarded by fans and critics, with the first grossing $773 million worldwide and the second bettering that figure with $864 million. But if there were doubts about any aspect of the film, the cast certainly had none of them.
“When we started down this road, it was not a franchise blockbusters. We were strange characters that no one expected to make it. However, we knew it was something special. That’s how it felt. We were proud of what we didBautista stated.
After this, he continued: “No.we had a great time. We knew it was good. Later, everyone seemed to notice, but we knew it all along.. In those first days of shooting we knew what was to come.”
“10 years later, I look back at everything we’ve accomplished and it seems unreal. It’s very bittersweet to say goodbye.“
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ will be released in theaters on May 5. The first two films in the trilogy are available on streaming on Disney+.
