iPhone 14 Plus runs aground and the production of the screen reaches almost zero

iPhone 14 Plus’ high price tag and few innovations keep interest high, while iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max attract more consumer attention

disinterest for iPhone 14 Plus is so big that the apple has almost completely discontinued the production of screens for the device. This is what new data from a market research by analyst Ross Young reveal, also indicating that the strategy of positioning the smartphone at a high price to attract more interest in the Pro line has worked very well.

In the graphics shared by the site 9to5macYoung shows that iPhone 14 Plus screen supply was highest in September (the smartphone’s launch month), but production has since plummeted, reaching its lowest level in December and January.

We can also see that the iphone 14 represented a consistent variation of film production, but it is the iPhone 14Pro AND 14 pro maximum which dominate supply, with more than 80% of January production going to premium models.

In the line in blue, we see that the market share of iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max has increased in recent months. And this is due to a very important factor: the price.

Why is the iPhone 14 Plus so cheap?

Apple positions the iPhone 14 Plus in a completely unattractive price range for consumers, especially in North America and Europe. In the US, for example, the device retails for US$899 with a carrier contract and US$929 unlocked. The iPhone 14 Pro, on the other hand, retails for $999 already unlocked.

The $70 range is so narrow that, of course, instead of preferring a big, simple phone, the consumer will prioritize a smaller, much more powerful phone, featuring the year’s top new features including Dynamic Island, 48MP camera and more.

Apple’s strategy worked

And that was exactly what Apple was looking for: to attract more public attention to more powerful models.

By positioning the iPhone 14 Plus at such a high value, the consumer ends up having to choose between a cheaper model – the iPhone 14 – or invest a little more and pick up the next most expensive model in the line – the 14 Pro.

iPhone 15 Plus is still in the plans

Despite the huge sales failure, Apple is still working on the successor to the iPhone 14 Plus for next year.

Rumors indicate that the company may reduce the price of the common pair, made up of iPhones 15 AND 15 plusespecially if we take it into consideration people buy fewer smartphonesas obviously the salary has to go to essential everyday purchases, not the latest mobile phone.

The reduction in the price of the double common can also be linked to the increase in the price of the double premium, with the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Ultra starting at $1,199 this year and now Apple is more interested in actually selling the cheapest models so as not to impact sales.
