Firefighters find body of man who has been missing for two days in Greater SP


The 30-year-old victim fell into the Arujá River after being swept away by a flood caused by heavy rains in the region.

Firemen found this friday the 3rd, the body of the 30 year old man who had been missing since last wednesday, in ArujaTO Great Sao Paulo. The victim was walking along Avenida Governador Mário Covas Júnior when, around 9.30 pm, it was swept away in a flood which caused the vehicle to fall into the Baquirivu-Guaçu River.

There were two other people in the car, who managed to save themselves from the accident. The vehicle, a red Volkswagen Up model, was located by firefighters in the early hours of Thursday. Since then, the company has continued the search for the victim.

However, the man’s searches were hampered by the strong current of the river and by the rain, which has continued to fall abundantly in recent days. In some periods, the fire brigade had to suspend searches.

According to a survey by the Civil Protection of the State of São Paulo, 24 people died due to rains since the beginning of December and 15 municipalities of São Paulo have declared a state of emergency due to thunderstorms.

This week, the highway Regis Bittencourt stayed 24 hours forbidden in both directions, at the height of Embu das Artesdue to the flooding of the tracks caused by the rains that hit the capital São Paulo and Greater São Paulo between the night of Tuesday 31st and the morning of Wednesday 1st.

According to the Emergency Management Center (CGE), the coming days will feature the typical summer rains in the state, with heat in the afternoon and thunderstorms later in the day.
