First it was Jenna Ortega with The Cramps’ ‘Goo Goo Muck’; then, Lady Gaga doing her own version of her song ‘Bloody Mary’ and now Madonna is joining the ‘challenge’ and breaking the Internet.
Madonna has spent four decades surprising us: making history with music, coming off quite well in her film appearances, defying the passage of time with planetary choreographies and showing that, wherever she goes, she is still the queen of pop.
But this Friday we woke up to a video on his TikTok profile that, again, has broken the internet. Madonna has been encouraged by Lady Gaga’s ‘challenge’ and her viral dance of ‘Wednesday’ with the song ‘Bloody Mary’, a 2011 song that then went unnoticed and has become a resounding success.
Madonna marked a choreography in what looks like her house wearing a lace bra, a black blazer, matching pants and huge sunglasses. Seeing Madonna dancing the viral dance of ‘Bloody Mary’ seems to confirm that the past feuds between them have been completely forgotten.
“Madonna X Gaga is going to happen soon, I can feel it in my bones”, wrote one person, referring to a possible collaboration, while another added: “I never thought I’d ever dance to a Lady Gaga song. Now I can die in peace.”
Madonna is currently preparing for her world tour, which already has some sold-out dates. “I’m excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes of giving my fans the show they’ve been waiting for.” Madonna said, with the official announcement detailing that ‘The Celebration Tour’ will “highlight her unrivaled catalog of music from the past 40 years and more.”
The ‘fight’ between Madonna and Lady Gaga dates back to 2011, when the single ‘Born This Way’ appeared, which many saw as more than just a ‘tribute’ to the Queen of Pop’s hit ‘Express Yourself’. Although Gaga denied it from the beginning, in 2012 Madonna said in statements to ABC: “Certainly, I think he references me a lot in his work. Sometimes I think it’s funny, flattering and well done. I can’t really feel upset or insulted. therefore because, of course, I have influenced her”. Not content with this, she performed some songs by Lady Gaga on her MDNA Tour.
The tension continued for a few years until, in 2019, Lady Gaga won the Oscar for her song ‘Shallow’, belonging to the soundtrack of ‘A star is born’. At a party after the awards ceremony, both took a photo together and the most affectionate that they made public on Instagram. This ‘Wednesday Dance’ to the music of Lady Gaga seems to confirm that peace has been signed between them.
