What happened to Pedro Pascal’s mother? The tragic story that led him to Hollywood

Among the actors who are polar opposites of their characters is Pedro Pascal, since he plays serious and rude roles, although in real life he is very joking, open and kind-hearted. he owes much of this to his mother.

Pedro is enjoying his moment of greatest fame since ‘Narcos’, starring in ‘The Mandalorian’, his role in the ‘Wonder Woman’ sequel and currently in the video game adaptation ‘The Last of Us ».

But the success that Pedro Pascal has as the “father of the entire Internet” would not have been possible without the inspiration and affection of his mother, who for the actor was the biggest motivation to shine in Hollywood.

What happened to Pedro Pascal’s mother? his tragic story

In February 2023, Pedro Pascal appeared on the comedy show “Saturday Night Live” and the guest band Coldplay dedicated the song “Fix You” to his mother Verónica Pascal.

This made many fans wonder about the story of Ms. Veronica Pascal and why the band dedicated the emotional song that Chris Martin wrote for Gwyneth Paltrow after the death of her father.

Verónica Pascal in Chile was closely associated with the political group Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR) which was against the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet and in favor of Salvador Allende in the 70s.

For this reason, Verónica and her husband José Balmaceda had to seek asylum in Denmark when she was 22 years old and already a mother of two. Pedro Pascal, born in 1975, was just 9 months old when they arrived in the European country.

After that, the artist would change his stage name from Pedro Balmaceda to what is now recognized as: Pedro Pascal. To honor his late mother, who always supported him in everything.

“She was always incredibly supportive, she never pretended to be mum. I always felt like he knew something I didn’t. None of (my success) would be real if it wasn’t for her,” Pedro told People in November 2020.

The name change, Pascal told Variety in October 2020, also happened because people in the United States had trouble pronouncing the last name Balmaceda.

For ‘Paula’ magazine in November 2017, the actor commented on the impact his mother’s death had and how it marked a before and after for his career and life in general.

“The circumstances of my mother’s death made it very difficult for us to keep her memory as the person she was. I’m in so much pain… Sometimes I feel anxious and I try to deal with it the best way I can, because I know my mother wouldn’t want me to do it any other way.”

Since then Pedro Pascal always thinks of her and although every day he wishes he could be with her, he accepts the reality and dedicates his success to her memory.

“I live for her even though she’s gone, and that makes sense to me.”

Pedro Pascal, who is developing a series with David Harbour, stars in the HBO Max series “The Last of Us” and also returns for “The Mandalorian” Season 3 on March 1 on Disney+.
