‘I know what you did last summer’: The original cast returns for a new sequel

history repeats itself. Wes Craven and his ‘Scream’ revolutionized horror movies in 1996 and sparked a new wave of teen slashers among which stood out ‘I know what you did last summer’ written by the same screenwriter kevin williamson.

Almost three decades later, ‘Scream’ has been modernized with a fifth installment that has been a huge success and ‘Scream 6’ is about to be released, creating an anticipation that promises another blockbuster. The “requels” of terror are in fashionWith recent big hits like the new ‘Halloween’ movie trilogy, Netflix’s ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ and the upcoming ‘Exorcist’ reboot, and the next to join will be the ‘I know what you did last summer’ franchise, which will bring back its original cast to face again the murderer of the hook and the raincoat.

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are in talks to reprise the roles of Julie James and Ray Bronson in a new installment 25 years after ‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer’the original sequel from 1998. The saga had a (disastrous) third installment with new characters in 2006 and an attempted reboot as a series in 2021, again following the slipstream of the MTV series ‘Scream’. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ screenwriter) will direct the new film from a script by Leah McKendrick.

Normally, this new installment ignores the events of the third part of the saga, which turned the murderer into a supernatural entity, as well as the Amazon Prime Video series, being a direct sequel to ‘I know what you did last summer’ and ‘I still know what you did last summer’.

For those who don’t remember the original plot, it all begins when a group of youngsters mistakenly runs over a fisherman and, leaving him for dead, throws him into the sea. One year later, adolescents begin to receive anonymous letters from someone claiming to know what happened last summerand they die one by one in revenge for what they did.
