Was Velma a lesbian in the ‘live-action’ ‘Scooby-doo’? This was his passionate kiss with Daphne

Despite the fact that Velma from ‘Scooby-Doo’ is one of the characters who are gay, but we hardly noticed it, years ago there was a chance for them to make their sexual orientation obvious.

In that regard, Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed that the “live-action” version of “Scooby-Doo” from 2002 eliminated a “passionate kiss” between Daphne, her character, and Velma. We explain to you.

This was Daphne and Velma’s kiss in the ‘live-action’ ‘Scooby-Doo’

While on “Watch What Happens Live with Ando Cohen,” Sarah Michelle Gellar was asked how true the rumors were that Daphne and Velma were dating in the original draft of the 2002 “Scooby-Doo” movie.

The actress (who defended Captain Marvel from sexist audiences) explained that there was no “parallel relationship” but that there was a passionate kiss between the two characters:

“I don’t know about a parallel relationship, but there was one [beso] passionate […] There was an actual kiss between Daphne and Velma [que] cut off… I feel like people want to see him, but… I don’t know where he is.”

Previously, James Gunn, the film’s director, had already explained via his Twitter account that Velma was gay in the original script, but the studio decided to remove this feature from the character.

“I tried! In 2001, Velma was clearly gay in my original script. But the studio kept watering it down and watering it down, it was ambiguous (the version), then nothing (the released version) and finally she had a boyfriend (the Continuity)”.

Another Scene Deleted From ‘Scooby-Doo’ ‘Live Action’

In the same interview, Sarah Michelle Gellar explained that there was another scene where it was implied that Fred was gay because of the clothes he was wearing.

“There was also a great line, which I’ll never forget. There’s a fight between Daphne and Fred, and I’m yelling, ‘That bandana makes you look gay!’ long that Fred was interested in both parties, but yeah, they cut everything.”

Although the “live action” of “Scooby-Doo” eliminated any possibility of seeing Velma as a lesbian or Fred as gay or bisexual, future productions made sure to show it.

In 2022’s Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo it was finally confirmed that Velma was in love with a fashion designer, and in the critically-acclaimed HBO series Velma this aspect of the character was retained.

However, in no production of the “Scooby-Doo” universe, Fred’s sexual orientation has been openly discussed, although it is believed that he could, indeed, be part of the LGBT+ community.
