Bebeto Castilho, founding musician of the Tamba Trio, dies at the age of 83


The artist has also collaborated with several MPB artists and recorded solo albums.

Castilho child died at the age of 83 last Friday, 10. The death was confirmed by Luiz Bakker, son of the musician, on Facebook. The vigil will take place from 1pm this Saturday, in chapel K of the São Francisco Xavier cemetery, in Rio de Janeiro. Burial is scheduled for 4pm.

Bassist and flautist, he was part of the legend tamba trio alongside Hélcio Milito (drums) and Luiz Eça (piano) in the 60s. “It was an important moment because it brought together three people from different backgrounds into a fourth thing, without anyone giving up their influences. But that is in the past. After Tamba I did a lot, I never stopped,” he recalled to the Stadium on May 29, 2006.

Born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in Tijuca, used to listening to samba Salgueiro, he recorded only two albums in his solo career. The first in 1976. The second, in 2006, almond treeswhich was considered one of the top 10 national music albums of the year by Stadium.
