Band released the Who album in 2019, but veterans’ next activities should only be on the road
Despite almost six decades of activity, the The Who not willing to retire now. the vocalist Roger Daltrey and the guitarist Pete Townshendaged 79 and 77 respectively, continue to perform and are about to embark on a UK tour with an orchestra.
But anyone hoping to hear new music from them will be disappointed. The band released an album, whoin 2019, and although it won a gold record for sales in British territory, the impact was below expectations in the opinion of Daltrey and, therefore, the group should not release new songs, as pointed out in an interview with NME.
What’s the point of releasing new music? What’s the point of releasing an album today? We released an album four years ago and it came to nothing.”
roger does not believe that the material presented by the band at the time is bad, to the point of being ignored. The problem, in his view, lies more in the way the public currently consumes music.
It’s a great album too, but there’s no interest in new music these days. People want to listen to old music. I don’t know why, but that’s the truth.”
Roger Daltrey and The Nonstop Who
On the other hand, neither The Whonor Roger Daltrey are willing to stop. In addition to the band keeping their activity on the road, Daltrey he also often performs solo shows, including having fulfilled a schedule in the United States accompanied by his own musicians earlier this year.
During the same interview with NME, the artist made it clear that he cannot even afford to stop. If he decides to take a year off, he may not return.
I have to keep doing this. If I stop for a while, I don’t know if I’ll have a voice at that age after a year off. And that’s the truth. That is the joy of being a singer: you are the instrument.”
