His last release was the album LUME, in June last year. For 2023, do you plan to release any new music or do you intend to continue with touring and side projects?
No, man. I think nowadays we don’t have much time to do these retreats. Before answering you, I was making the calendar for the year, setting all the dates for singles, releases
I want to release an album at the end of the year. So, in parallel with tours, commercial shows and festivals, I want to be creating and I want to be releasing, you know? My releases will come out, many feats. This year promises a lot. There will be a lot of shows and a lot of releases, God willing.

LUME had a lot of influence on trap. Do you plan to continue in this genre or do you want to try new styles?
I don’t plan to expand into other styles, no. I think what is rap is the modern music there is. Rap is the evolution of music as a whole. Sorry for the pretense, but it’s because [o gĂȘnero] talks about everything, you know? Life as it is. The lyric is very complete in all instances. I think that’s what rap is about: this complete freedom, you see life as it is. If, fuck, I get philosophical here about what I think rap is, we’re not leaving here today.
But they are almost secrets that are in the raps. Power secrets. Personal empowerment secrets, really. The truths are in the raps. I’m an enthusiast, I love this shit so much, I’m very passionate about it. I don’t have the slightest intention of doing another genre. I did not choose [o rap] precisely because it is a musical genre. I chose it for the attitude, for having transformed me. Just as many people understand the truth of their life in samba. I understand life through rap, it’s on. The samba is wonderful. I’m not discrediting samba. My artistic expression is in rap.

I want to highlight the large amount of feats in LUME. For you, what is the importance of working with different artists in your music? Is this something you intend to continue doing in the coming years?
Yes! I think this is the trend. I brought the Anita on my disk, there the Shaman brought the Luisa Sonzafeat with her. little hair bring the Gloria Groove. This greatly enriches music and society as a whole. It makes people believe in us more. We believe in them more. This generates a very positive energy of acceptance. the fans of little hair start to accept the Gloria Groove, let’s put it like this. the fans of Ret accept the Anita. fans of Shaman accept the Luisa Sonza. Mutually, this is very enriching, culturally speaking, for society.

I want to keep bringing more feat. My next album will have a lot of collaboration. I think that’s part of rap and music culture.

Now, in March, you’re going to do a show at Lollapalooza Brasil. What can the festival audience (and their fans, of course) expect from this performance?
I’m going to contemplate all the albums, I’m not going to leave any album out, I know I have a lot of fans who like to listen to some old ones, I don’t fail to rescue them, they’ll have all my phases, from the vivacious, from 2012. It has been released for over ten years. So I try to put all these times.
I’m here at the rehearsal pace, planning pace for the year, doing daily rehearsals. Intense pace, exhausting as hell, but tasty and let’s go up! I want to get there, excite the crowd as much as possible and have fun. That’s the purpose of junk.

Is there any artist show you really want to see at the festival? Who would it be?
Of drake, for sure. He is a giant reference in several aspects. The guy really raised the level of the game to an almost unimaginable place. He’s a guy to be studied and art contemplated for several reasons. Also have Billie Eilish, RosalĂa, Kali Uchis… there’s a really big crowd that I’d like to watch.

Finally, what can we expect from Filipe Ret’s next steps?
I’m very grateful. I want to keep releasing music, working with my artists, keep developing, evolving, maturing and modernizing what I do. I want to continue showing new talents and enriching this scene even more, showing the power of rap and how important it is, how it is cultural, true, seeing my label grow, my name expand… that’s it.
