Why Richie Sambora Feels Coming Back To Bon Jovi Is ‘Must’

Member of the band between 1983 and 2013 and co-author of several hits, guitarist suggests that return is close to happening

Richie Sambora is out of Bon Jovi since 2013. The guitarist, who joined the band in its early days, in 1983, claimed a number of personal and even professional reasons to justify his departure, which occurred in the middle of a tour of North America – he needed to be replaced at hurry by Phil Xwhich had already occupied the vacancy temporarily in 2011.

A decade later, behold, Sambora may be about to return to the band that enshrined him. In an interview with Absolute Radiothe musician, who recently participated in the British edition of the program The Masked Singerrevealed to be in contact with the vocalist Jon Bon Jovi there is some time to discuss a meeting.

We’re talking about it. I don’t think there’s any reason not to do that at this point.

As he never stopped talking about even the most controversial topics of his career, richie didn’t “flee the line” when asked about Jon’s subpar vocal performances in recent years. The guitarist said the vocalist is currently taking some time off to recover and is expected to announce the reunion as soon as he feels ready. He also explained that, on behalf of the fans, he considers his return to the group to be an “obligation”.

Jon was having a little trouble with his voice and needed some breathing space. I don’t know when it will be ready again, but we have to do this for the fans, really. I feel a real obligation.

Return already suggested

It’s not the first time Richie Sambora indicates the possibility of returning to Bon Jovi. In November 2022, when talking to the tabloid Subwaythe guitarist was a little more succinct when he said that a presentation of him with the band at the festival of Glastonburyset to take place in June 2023 in the UK.

Interestingly, the group was not announced at the event, which will have Arctic monkeys, Armas e Rosas, Elton John It is lizzo among its main attractions.

Why Richie Sambora Left Bon Jovi

In a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone USA, Richie Sambora spoke openly about the reasons that made him leave Bon Jovi. Personal and professional issues interfered in the decision. The main one was related to the fatigue of doing long tours, which lasted more than a year. This kept him away from his family.

You get home: things have changed. Divorce, birth, death. Ups and downs of normal life. Small tragedies. Love, joy. You lose all these things over and over again. Like I said, we weren’t a band that took a lot of time off. My daughter (available) needed me at that time, my dad was dying of cancer, I was in the middle of a divorce and I still had my shoulder busted.

As far as the professional part is concerned, Sambora said he wanted to have more protagonism in the vocals – and he would only get that out of the band that bears the singer’s last name. “I needed to do something different and, frankly, I wanted to sing! He wanted to be a lead singer. In many bands I was in before, I was the lead singer and I missed that.”
