The Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock Doesn’t Like The Pistol Series: ‘It Should Be More True’

Pistol premiered on FX in May 2022; series was criticized by some members of the Sex Pistols

Iconic punk rock band, sex pistols was pictured in pistolminiseries of FX May 2022. However, the production created by Danny Boyle didn’t like the bassist Glen Matlockwho complained about the lack of “fidelity” of the series available on Star+.

During an interview with The Metal Voicethe musician revealed how he was “very disappointed with it, actually, considering I had meetings with Danny Boyle about it.” Then matlock pointed out some scenes portrayed in pistol that do not dialogue with the history of the group.

“I’m not disappointed with the release and thought it was important that it go forward because it was based on the story of Steve [Jones] and tackled things,” he stated. “And he was the guy who formed the band – no John [Lydon], Steve. John was the last of the band…”

But my portrait, and particularly my departure from the band – I left the band. I wasn’t fired. That whole episode where Steve fired me is just bullshit.

“I just think the show should have been more truthful. The real story is grittier… I found Danny Boyle again in Los Angeles after the launch and I [participei] of a private viewing,” continued Glen Matlock. “[Ele me disse]: ‘Hey, glen, how are you doing?’ I replied: ‘Dannyyou are an asshole.'”

When pistol was in the early stages of production, matlock came to meet Boylebut the musician felt frustrated after being sidelined: “In the beginning, I had some meetings with Danny in particular and the staff. And I thought everything had been resolved. But I was ignored. So I’m not happy. I feel harmed.”

Glen Matlock feels a little ashamed of pistol

According to the bassist, he went to watch the series with his son, Louis, which raised some questions about the series’ narrative. “Louis kind of astutely said, ‘The problem is, I know you did this and that, and I know this about Steve, but you and paul they look like two-dimensional characters; there is no history [ou informações sobre] his family and everything,'” he recalled.

A little bit of it could be there and [eles poderiam] have developed things a bit more. AND [Danny] you might say, ‘Well, there’s not time for all that.’ Well there was a whole episode about Chrissie Hynde not marrying Steve, which took an hour out of everyone’s lives, which never happened.
